Papers of Marion duPont Scott, 1836-1944,n.d.

The collection contains a photograph of a steeple chase race and a ticket to the Deep Run Hunt Race Meeting, 1936 April 4; a photograph of an unidentified golfer; a Camden and Kershaw County Chamber of Commerce election ballot, 1926; a card containing one of the Reverend Legh Richmond's counsels; and a paper scrap with pencilled amounts "For Chapel fund." Also a bill, 1941 July 28, to Mrs. Scott from Page's Drug Store, Orange, Va., together with an uncashed check for the amount; a note on the visiting card of Mrs. Algernon Sidney Buford, Jr., enclosing a book of poems as a Christmas present. With these are a photocopy of several pages from Skinner's List of horses imported before the Revolution into Virginia; and assorted clippings chiefly containing 19th century domestic receipts.

Legh Richmond was an Evangelical clergyman in Great Britain. He was educated at Trinity College at Cambridge University. He is famous for writing The Dairyman's Daughter and other popular works of fiction relating to English village life. From 1807 to 1812 he published several volumes of Fathers of the English Church, a collection of biographies of people active in the English Reformation.
